Privacy Policy

Last Updated: February 26, 2026

Your privacy is important to us. This policy explains what personal data we collect, why we collect it, how we use it, and what rights you have in relation to it. Please read it carefully alongside our Cookie Policy and Terms of Service.

Hyper Notepad is operated from the United Kingdom. We are the data controller for the personal data described in this policy and are subject to the UK General Data Protection Regulation (UK GDPR) and the Data Protection Act 2018.

1. What Data We Collect

1.1 Account Data

When you create an Account using Google Sign-In, we receive certain information from Google as part of the authentication process. This includes your name, email address, and Google profile identifier. We do not receive or store your Google password. The information shared by Google is governed by Google's Privacy Policy.

1.2 Usage Data

We automatically collect certain technical information when you use the Service, including your IP address, browser type and version, operating system, pages visited, and the date and time of your visit. This data is used to maintain and improve the Service.

1.3 Payment Data

If you subscribe to a Premium Plan, payment is processed by Polar. We do not collect or store your payment card details. Polar may share with us limited transaction information such as subscription status, billing period, and whether a payment was successful. Polar's handling of your payment data is governed by Polar's Privacy Policy.

1.4 Communications Data

If you contact us by email, we will retain the content of that communication and your email address in order to respond to and resolve your query.

1.5 Advertising Data

If you use the Service on a Free Plan, Google AdSense may collect data about your browsing behaviour to serve personalised advertisements. This is handled directly by Google and is subject to Google's advertising privacy policies. Further details are set out in our Cookie Policy.

2. Lawful Basis for Processing

Under UK GDPR, we must have a lawful basis for processing your personal data. We rely on the following:

  • Contract performance — processing your account data and subscription information is necessary to provide the Service to you.
  • Legitimate interests — we process usage and technical data to maintain, secure, and improve the Service. We have assessed that these interests are not overridden by your rights and interests.
  • Legal obligation — we may process or retain data where required to comply with applicable law.
  • Consent — where we rely on consent (for example, in relation to personalised advertising cookies), you may withdraw your consent at any time via our Cookie Policy.

3. How We Use Your Data

We use the data we collect for the following purposes:

  • To create and manage your Account.
  • To provide, operate, and maintain the Service.
  • To process your subscription and manage billing through Polar.
  • To communicate with you about your Account, your subscription, or in response to your enquiries.
  • To monitor and analyse usage in order to improve the Service.
  • To serve advertisements to free tier users via Google AdSense.
  • To detect, investigate, and prevent fraudulent or unauthorised activity.
  • To comply with our legal obligations.

4. Sharing Your Data

We do not sell your personal data. We may share your data with the following categories of third parties:

4.1 Service Providers

We work with third-party providers who help us operate the Service. These include:

  • Google — for authentication via Google Sign-In and for serving advertisements via AdSense.
  • Polar — for processing Premium Plan payments and managing subscriptions.
  • Hosting and infrastructure providers — to store and serve the Service.

These providers are only permitted to process your data in accordance with our instructions and applicable data protection law.

We may disclose your data if required to do so by law or in response to a valid request from a public authority, such as a court or regulatory body.

4.3 Business Transfers

In the event that Hyper Notepad is acquired, merged, or its assets are transferred to a third party, your personal data may be transferred as part of that transaction. We will notify you in advance if this occurs and if your data will be subject to a different privacy policy.

5. International Data Transfers

Hyper Notepad is based in the United Kingdom. Some of our third-party service providers, including Google and Polar, may process your data outside the UK or EEA. Where this occurs, we ensure that appropriate safeguards are in place in accordance with UK GDPR, such as the use of the UK's International Data Transfer Agreement (IDTA) or equivalent standard contractual clauses.

6. Data Retention

We retain your personal data only for as long as necessary for the purposes set out in this policy, or as required by law. Specifically:

  • Account data is retained for as long as your Account is active. If you request deletion of your Account, we will delete or anonymise your personal data within a reasonable period, except where retention is required by law.
  • Payment and transaction records may be retained for up to 7 years in accordance with UK financial record-keeping obligations.
  • Usage and technical data is typically retained for up to 12 months.
  • Communications are retained for as long as necessary to resolve your query and for a reasonable period thereafter.

7. Cookies

We use cookies and similar tracking technologies on the Service. Full details of the cookies we use, their purposes, and how to manage your preferences are set out in our Cookie Policy.

8. Your Rights

Under UK GDPR, you have the following rights in relation to your personal data:

  • Right of access — you may request a copy of the personal data we hold about you.
  • Right to rectification — you may ask us to correct inaccurate or incomplete data.
  • Right to erasure — you may ask us to delete your personal data in certain circumstances.
  • Right to restriction — you may ask us to restrict processing of your data in certain circumstances.
  • Right to data portability — you may request a copy of your data in a structured, machine-readable format.
  • Right to object — you may object to processing based on legitimate interests or for direct marketing purposes.
  • Right to withdraw consent — where processing is based on consent, you may withdraw it at any time without affecting the lawfulness of prior processing.

To exercise any of these rights, please contact us at support@hypernotepad.com. We will respond within one month of receiving your request, as required by UK GDPR. We may need to verify your identity before processing your request.

9. Children's Privacy

The Service is not intended for children under the age of 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal data from children under this age. If you believe a child under 13 has provided us with personal data, please contact us at support@hypernotepad.com and we will take steps to delete it promptly.

10. Data Security

We take appropriate technical and organisational measures to protect your personal data against unauthorised access, loss, or disclosure. However, no method of transmission over the internet is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security. You are responsible for keeping your Account credentials confidential.

11. Your Right to Complain

If you have concerns about how we handle your personal data, we encourage you to contact us first at support@hypernotepad.com and we will do our best to resolve the matter.
